Gamification: The challenge of learning as you play
A new and powerful strategy for influencing and motivating groups of people.
“It is in playing and only in playing that the individual child or adult is able to be creative and to use the whole personality, and it is only in being creative that the individual discovers the self.”
- Donald Winnicott
Gamification is the use of gameplay mechanics to boost motivation, concentration, effort, fidelization and other positive values common to every game. A new and powerful strategy for influencing and motivating groups of people.
This way, the right implementation turns connectivity into engagement, making the members of a community (company employees, students from the same institute and even the residents of a city) participate in a dynamic and proactive way in actions that generally require motivation.
The application of game mechanics to unreated activites lets us create a number of user experiences that enrich said activity and making it more attractive and increasing interest. The intention is to boost motivation and commitment in the players through meeting targets and getting some sort of recognition from the community.
Main game mechanics:
- Scores
- Levels
- Rewards
- Virtual assets
- Challenges
On the other hand, we have the game dynamics, those human compulsions and concerns that drive us to act. We all have fundamental needs like yearning for rewards, recognition, status, achievements, self expression, competition, etc.
Main game dynamics:
- Rewards
- Status
- Achievement
- Self expression

Success story
We recently designed and developed the Cierto app for Montes del Plata. The app focuses on teaching, instructing and training company employees about its different areas, the history of the company, and mostly what it does and what the process to get the final product is like.
It's a trivia-style game, where players are asked question and given different answer options, winning points and rewards for correct answers. It also drives competition through public score rankings.
Luckily the app was a hit since many company employees registered and started playing. The company managed, in a simple way, to make their processes and history known and improve internal communication.
We invite you to know more about Cierto, here.
To sum up the main goal was to influence and motivate users to acquire habits and meet targets through gameplay, competition and interaction with activities and the community.
